A raw image file contains minimally processed data from sensors or scanners. A JPEG photo is the compressed version of a photo and is the most common format for storing or transmitting photos. TIF is that standard photo for publishing and printing. It can be compressed or uncompressed and is larger than a JPEG file. Both CCD (charge-coupled device) and CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) convert light into electrons. CMOS lenses are cheaper to manufacture.
